Tanzanian president dies at 61 to a ‘heart condition’

The president of Tanzania, John Magufuli has died at aged 61 due to heart disease. Magufuli died on Wednesday 17th of March 2021.

Concerns and rumors were being raised by Tanzanian citizens after president John had been scarce for 3 weeks prior to his death. The committed catholic leader was reported to have missed 3 Sunday services which sparked rumors of him having Covid19.

Tanzania’s vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan said, “It is with deep regret that I inform you that today on the 17th of March, 2021 at 6:00 pm we lost our brave leader, the President of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli”. She also said his heart condition is known as chronic atrial fibrillation characterized by a heartbeat that is not normal.

Magufuli had been feeling ill for a long period of time due to the heart condition that he has had for over a decade. His first hospital was on March 6th but was later discharged. On the 14th of March he began to feel unwell again and had to be admitted once more.

The vice president has announced a 14 day mourning period.
