Amazon is facing its worst PR nightmare. The company has been making eleven and half million U.S dollars every hour during this plandemic but that has come with its challenges. Amazon workers have not benefited from such huge profits and have called this pure evil.
To address the issue the workers are calling for the formation of workers’ union. Just this past Friday, the U.S Senator, Bernie Sanders joined Amazon workers at a rally in Alabama to help unionize.
During a Senate hearing earlier this month, Sanders criticized Bezos’ wealth and Amazon’s efforts to encourage workers to vote against unionizing. Bezos declined an invitation to testify at the hearing, which was titled “The Income and Wealth Inequality Crisis in America.” Bezos’ net worth has since ticked up to $184 billion.
Sanders has criticized Bezos’ wealth several times in the past, Jeff Bezos was the emblem of “unfettered capitalism” in America. Sanders has also put pressure on Bezos to raise the minimum wage for Amazon employees and introduced a bill in 2018 called the ”Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies Act” or Stop BEZOS. The bill did not receive a vote, but that year Amazon raised its minimum wage to $15 an hour.
