ANC members protest ahead of Mayoral candidates interviews

ANC members picket outside Luthuli house

The ANC is holding its much-anticipated interviews for mayoral candidates for municipalities it won control of in the local government elections. Some members have picketed outside Luthuli House in Johannesburg, where the interviews will take place.

They are calling for the party to implement its promise that 25 % of the candidates for positions as mayors and councillors, will be youngsters. ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, recently announced that the party needed candidates who have the skills and expertise to lead at the municipal level.

This comes after some ANC employees who have not been paid for the past three months ended up overshadowed by scores of protesting branch members, mostly from Mpumalanga and Ekurhuleni, demanding a resolution to candidate disputes.
