DA Leader John Steenhuisen released today what the DA calls the True State of the Nation Address. Steenhuisen addressed the nation on what a post-pandemic, post-ANC South Africa looks like, and how we can get there, ahead of President Ramaphosa’s 2022 State of the Nation Address.
The impact of the last two years, particularly on poverty has been enormous. During his address, Steenhuisen lambasted Ramaphosa’s administration over issues ranging from its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic to the rampant corruption and culture of State Capture that has been outlined in various reports, including the recent conclusions from the Zondo commission.
He said that on Thursday, Ramaphosa will fail to address any of these mounting problems, and rather deliver a host of hollow policy pledges. He mentioned how the people of South Africa should choose their leader wisely, saying that some leaders are driven by centralised control and others, decentralisation.
The DA Leader said that in a pandemic, the government should retain and ramp up services, not cut services, destroy jobs and restrict people’s freedoms. He also lamented never-ending periods of load shedding, as well as attacks on South Africa’s judiciary from within the ruling party.
