Universities Alliance South Africa prepare lawsuit against vaccine mandates

An organisation representing students and staff across South Africa is preparing a class-action lawsuit against several public universities over their mandatory vaccine policies.

Since the beginning of the year, a couple of Universities in South Africa implemented the compulsory vaccine mandate for all students and staff members to enter into their premises.

The mandate also said those who are fully vaccinated are to provide a negative Covid19 test every week. The alliance described this policy as irrational and medically unjustified and unlawful, it also violates human rights to bodily autonomy.

Nathan Pilay, who is the director of the Universities Alliance has called for institutions to urgently reconsider and abandon their mandates by Tuesday failing which the alliance has threatened to take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
