Houston under boil-water notice, schools close after outage at plant

A boil water notice was issued for Houston, Texas’ main water system last Sunday night after a power disruption. The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, provided an update on what the next steps are toward lifting the boil water notice.

He explained how this issue occurred and the series of events that took place before issuing the notice for all residents of Houston. Turner explained the water sample testing plan that has been set in place, and said that he expects another update very late tonight or early tomorrow morning, determining if the notice can be lifted.

Turner also addressed the time frame in which Houstonians were notified and said that in his opinion people were notified at the proper time. When asked about any water distribution sites, he said that if there is a need for those they will be facilitated in certain areas.
