The top leaders of South Africa’s ruling party the African National Congress (ANC) went into talks yesterday to discuss the fate of embattled President Cyril Ramaphosa on the eve of a parliamentary vote that could lead to his impeachment.
Ramaphosa insisted at the weekend that he would not resign after a special panel reported on an alleged cover-up of a cash robbery at his farm, but his political future remains uncertain.
ANC spokesman Pule Mabe said the president was recused from the meeting, in line with standard practice for a person under discussion.
