South Africa’s opposition calls for ‘national shutdown’

EFF members gather and take to the streets for #nationalshutdown

South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters began their nationwide protests this morning. The red berets’ national shutdown is protesting the ongoing energy crisis, demanding that President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down as Head as State, as well as a demand for unemployment to be addressed.

The Johannesburg High Court dismissed an urgent application aimed at interdicting the deployment of the South African National Defence Force for the national shutdown on Monday.

The Union Buildings in Pretoria were heavily protected by members of SAPS, Tshwane metro police department and the SANDF as protesters made their way through the city. Let’s watch the events of today’s protest.
